Based on years of refinement in ukulele design by none other than Kim Breedlove himself, the Breedlove Lu’au Concert Electro-Acoustic Ukulele is a stunning foray into Uke production by this highly respected guitar luthier. With beautiful Myrtlewood used in its construction – here combined with solid Sitka spruce for the top – the Breedlove Lu’au ukulele has a bright voice with lovely sustain. Breedlove always puts a lot of work into the playing experience too, the results of which are evident; the neck is very comfortable, and the fretboard is a dream to navigate.

Breedlove Lu’au Concert Electro-Acoustic Ukulele with Natural Shadow Gloss Finish
For years, Kim Breedlove departed the Breedlove workshop on late afternoons – just to go to his home garage workshop and craft ukuleles. Kim has now retired, but his passion for these diminutive instruments lives on in the form of Breedlove’s new range of Lu’au Ukes. Designed in Bend, Oregon, and crafted from Oregon myrtlewood, these concert Ukuleles are based on Kim’s custom shape and bracing. Beautiful to behold and to play, the Concert size of these ukes makes them perfect for performance and more advanced techniques.
Top Wood
Sitka spruce, picea sitchensis, originates in the northwest United States. Sitka spruce has been the primary top wood for American-made instruments for decades. It is strong and light with extended harmonic content, and it nearly equals the power of Adirondack. It offers a strong, focused tone with a solid fundamental. When compared with European spruce, Sitka delivers warmer, more fundamental sound, largely free of overtones. Sitka takes a slightly longer period of playing time to open up. It has a straight uniform grain and colouration ranges from white to pink to light brown.
Back and Sides Wood
Myrtlewood is a stunning tree that grows along Oregon’s Pacific Coast. Battered by wind and rain, it grows in rich figured, colourful hues. Its musical character is a marriage of rosewood, mahogany and maple – balanced and alive with bass, mid and treble sound. Myrtlewood is denser than Sitka spruce, allowing the top to be sanded thinner, giving more energy to sound creation.
